Making Ramhead Rebus

Ideally, the puzzle will be produced by the board game publisher. After the "higher" initial costs, cheap production should take place by plastic injection. However, from the beginning of the RAMHEAD development, it was count that plastic injection may not be available and the design of the puzzle must allow production by woodworking. It is best to use basic machining methods - right-angle cutting and vertical drilling. The images below show the results of production using different methods.

Game board made by laser cutting. Squares and a perimeter frame are glued on the base layer. It looks good for a first try.

With the first prototype made of wooden material, I also had an auxiliary grid cut out straight away, which defines the position of the individual squares and offers gluing. Something had gone wrong. The part on which the auxiliary grid was supposed to be glued was made smaller. I had to improvise. You don't want to know whose picture I sacrificed.

Made by 3D printing. When colleague gave me this bow tie, I thanked him, but immediately warned him that I will not wear this given bow tie, that some things should still be made using traditional methods. I encouraged him not to print nonsense, but something that makes sense, something innovative, something like my puzzle :-) During the testing of the blue-orange variant, I was bothered by the high contrast of the colors used and the fact that the base was made up of seventeen parts. That's why I drew a new version in MS Painting. I used two tones of blue (I was inspired by a gift bow tie). A colleague converted the sketch into a 3D model and printed it out. The base of the puzzle is made of only one part instead of the original seventeen.
